Tweet by SpringaldJack: My brain is not a cooperative brain.

URWUT = You Are What You Tweet. This is a project where small multi media pieces are created inspired by people’s tweets. Each piece works to encompass the mood, feeling, meaning, or moment captured by the individual tweet.

Each piece’s approx. runtime is determined by the length of the tweet. Since twitter enforces a 140 character limit, the pieces are rooted in brevity. This tweet was 36 characters, so the video runs approx. 36 seconds.

The tweet: my brain is not a cooperative brain.

I loved this tweet for its playful simplicity and childlike logic. So, I decide to animate it. I wanted it to feel light-hearted. It seemed as if the tweet’s originator intended it to be both silly matter of fact, so I tried to let that tone ring true in the visual aesthetic created by the paper’s texture and rough edges.

i hate spiders is a super short roto-scoped animation that playfully recants a story from my childhood. This piece uses playful music, and childlike drawings to further connect the viewer with the childlike silliness of the story and the fear itself. Full of wit and charm, this piece has been exhibited in the Open APPerture Short Film Festival, where it won in the category of Super Short Film. It was shown in the Scene First Student Film Festival, where it won Best Short Animated Film, and it was screened internationally in the People’s Choice Independent Film Festival in Ecuador.

Documentation of a gallery installation about the repoduction process and how gender roles vary in a sexual relationship. The videos show the heads of men and women during masturbation, placed atop the symbolic representation of gender in our culture. The genital region of the female character has been replaced by an abstract hand drawn animation showing the stereotypical and symbolic coupling of a penis and a vagina. This loops over and over as the heads on top begin to switch, challenging what is considered to be standard and heterosexual gender norms.
